Heartwrenching victim impact statements being read at the Court of Queen’s Bench during the sentencing hearing for Fred Cormier Junior, who has been found guilty of second degree murder in the stabbing death of Spencer Eldridge on Lancaster Street last May.
Eldridge’s sister, Meghan, reading her statement in the courtroom saying it’s indescribable how lonely she feels without her little brother. She says she will forever look at her life and categorize it as before and after her brother was killed.
His mother, Sharon-Anne, says losing her son shattered so many lives and that it breaks her heart to see her family in such pain. Eldridge’s grandmother, Lauretta, says she is grieving for her grandson, her daughter and her family and she prays that someday she can forgive the person who took Spencer from them.
After the victim impact statements were read, Fred Cormier Junior saying that he is sorry for all the pain and the hurt he has caused.
Crown Prosecutor Lucie Mathurin says they’re seeking a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 11-12 years for Cormier, while defense lawyer Peter Corey is calling for the minimum sentence which would be parole eligibility after serving 10 years.
