Many seniors are afraid of losing everything they have worked for as the provincial government’s new policy for long term care is re-vamped.
Liberal MLA John Ames says noone will be losing their home, “The family home will not be included. The proceeds from the sale of the last house someone owns before going into a nursing home will also NOT be included.”
Ames adds there are a few other things that won’t be considered when factoring in the new policy and determine how much a senior will contribute to their nursing home care, includes: your cottage, vehicle, RRSP’s, Registered Retirement Income Funds, and all tangible assets.
He adds that islanders need not too worry either, because boats are NOT on the list.
