It appears a decision on the reinstatement of suspended City Police officer Chris Messer could come later rather than sooner.
Deputy Police Chief Glen McCloskey says the settlement reached between the Police Commission and the Saint John Police Association is going before the arbitrator. He says the arbitrator has sole jurisdication of accepting the settlement that the Police Association and the Saint John Board of Police Commissioners came to and ratified.
Saint John Police Commission chair Nicole Paquet says the matter has to go through an arbitrator as stipulated by the Police Act. She says they’ve looked at an agreement and at this point they’re not in a position to talk about any of the details.
Back in January of this year it was announced that all legal proceedings against Messer had been stayed.
Thursday’s open session portion of the Police Commission meeting was cancelled because of a personal issue and it’s going to be rescheduled.
