Federal finance minister Joe Oliver spent some time with seniors in Moncton today.
Oliver met with a group at Camden Park Terrace where he trumpeted the benefits of the federal budget.
Although he didn’t mention New Brunswick specifically, Oliver admits what each province does can often outweigh any benefits from Ottawa.
“While one province may raise the tax, others may not. The result is, the province that raises it becomes less competitive than the province that doesn’t because their taxes are higher.”
Oliver was asked about raising the Old Age Pension and Canada Pension Plan for seniors but said anything more Ottawa can do will largely depend on tax revenues from the slumping oil industry.
