Many daycare Owner Operators from across the province gathered outside the legislature to have their message heard yesterday.
The recent announcement by the provincial government of a creation of new daycare spaces, while making changes to the Quality Improvement Financial Program, that will see the top up on Owner/Operators salaries disappear, has caused some tension.
Co-Chair for the local group “Education, Professionalism. Young Children” Janice Sutherland says this is unacceptable.
She says everyone is upset, ” Not one daycare, not one city in the province isn’t angry. Everyone is up in arms.”
Sutherland says additional child care space are not needed, and with the removal of top up funding for Owner/Operators. She says this is going to put many “For Profit” daycares at risk.
Early Childhood Development Minister Serge Rousselle plans to meet with the daycare owners again next week.
