The Fundy Rose will be plying the waters of the Bay of Fundy.
That is the new name of the Saint John to Digby ferry service replacing the Princess of Acadia.
Rodney Weston says the name commemmorates the area and a maritimer who contributed significantly to life in the maritimes–Rose Fortune.
He says Rose Fortune was a Canadian who came to Annapolis Royal with the black loyalists who developed a successful business transporting luggage from the ferry docks to hotels in Annapolis by wheelbarrow. He says she also offered a wakeup service to customers to make sure they caught their boat to Saint John on time
Weston says the new Fundy Rose ferry should be in service by late June. Work continues on refittomg the vessel near the Halifax shipyward.
A naming contest held earlier this year had 45 entries.
