The inquest into the death of 22 year old Serena Perry at the Regional Hospital has heard from the manager of security and safety measures at the Regional.
The jury was told the doors to the amphtheatre, where Perry’s body was discovered, were locked but could be yanked open with a hard enough pull which is no longer the case. Security guard Phil Dunham was working the night Perry and testified he was aware of the problem with the doors at the amphitheatre. When asked how long it had been a problem, Dunham replied quite awhile, months I would guess but there was no work order for the doors.
A nurse who works in the psychiatric unit told the inquest she saw Perry and two male patients sign out the evening of her death but Perry did not return. When Melissa Schima asked why, one of the patients told her Perry was acting funny and he left her in the theatre. Schima told of finding Perry’s body with a blue housecoat wrapped around her neck.
The coroner told the jurors he was told by a doctor that Perry was not suicidal.
