The jury at the Serena Perry inquest hearing from a nurse at the Saint John Regional Hospital who testifies that after finding the 22-year-old in the amphitheatre on Valentine’s Day of 2012 she called a code blue: medical emergency.
Paula Murphy, the nurse, telling the jury that the lights in the amphitheatre were out when they first arrived and she was calling Serena Perry’s name. Murphy says they found Perry the bottom of the amphiteatre on her back and once they got closer to her she realized that Perry’s colour was not good describing it as greyish. She says right away she thought Perry was choking
Leanne Hebert, who was working as an ICU nurse, testifying that oxygen, CPR, a breathing tube and medication were among the treatments given to Perry. Serena Perry was pronounced dead about 13 minutes after the code blue was called in.
Murphy describing Serena Perry as someone who could be very pleasant and easy going while at other times she could get a little moody. Murphy says on the evening of Perry’s death she was at the nursing station when Perry asked her for a cigarette saying she would be back. Murphy noting Perry was alone when she gave her the cigarette.
Victoria Breau, a personal support worker who met with Perry fairly often, was asked if Perry ever talked about life plans. Breau says that Perry wanted to get better and go to school.
