Higher water rates for apartment building owners and small businesses in Rothesay not on the town`s water supply is not etched in stone. Mayor Bill Bishop says Rothesay town council members have an open mind.
Lawyer Andy Lodge, who represents some of the property owners, warns any increase in their costs to connect to town water will just be passed on to those who are less well off and are renting. He adds this is not the time to add to the costs of small businesses in the town. Mark Hatfield of Homestar estimates the hookup along will cost him 50 thousand dollars.
The Director of Operations for the town, Brett McLean says there are not enough water users in the town. As such, the water has to be flushed when it becomes stale and he estimates 40 billion litres are wasted each year.
