Its Canada Road Safety Week and Maritime police forces are looking for drivers who speed, drive under the influence or drive while doing other things, like texting.
RCMP Sergeant Al LeBlanc says some drivers are determined to ignore the law.
“The reality is that there are tragic consequences to this behaviour and people need to understand that they play a big part in keeping our highways safe,” says LeBlanc.
Distracted driving is the leading cause of fatal and serious accidents across the Maritimes.
RCMP officers are out in force this May long weekend looking for offenders.
