The inquest into the death of 22-year-old Serena Perry at the Saint John Regional Hospital hearing from four city police officers involved in arresting the two patients seen with Perry the night of her death for murder.
Constable Rheal Levesque testifying that patient “A” told him he didn’t remember killing anyone and he was later ruled out as a suspect.
Constable Mark McKinnon arresting patient “B” who asked to spit and when he did McKinnon noticed blood in the saliva. He also noticed that hair appeared to be missing from the crown of his head.
Constable John Wright was also involved in the arrest of “B”. Wright testifying that “B” looked at him and questioningly said the word “murder?” along with “Serena is dead?” which Wright said seemed odd to him. He says while in the interview room “B” scratched his arm until it started bleeding.
Licensed Practical Nurse Brenda Gillespie, who was working in the hospital’s psychiatric unit the night Perry died, testified that “B” told her Serena had asked him for his housecoat and he gave it to her. He also told Gillespie that Serena was saying things like “its time” and “it’s coming.”
The inquest continues on Thursday.
