At a media briefing in Saint John, TransCanada officials repeating their support and committment to the Energy East pipeline project.
The subject of safety came up and spokesperson Tim DuBoyce explained the Energy East pipeline will have digital sensors inside the entire pipeline network sending data in real time on temperature and flow inside the pipeline to the safety control centre in Calgary.
He says if there is ever a problem the shutdown of the pipeline can begin immediately.
Besides the pipeline, the plans call for a tank farm in Red Head that would hold more than 7.6 million barrels of oil.
Pieces of pipe were dropped off earlier this year to prepare welders and buidlers to do the work needed in the construction of the project.
DuBoyce says they prefer to hire locally. More than 2300 direct and spinoff jobs will be created during the construction phase.
