Doctors in New Brunswick are supporting a national campaign called “Choosing Wisely Canada” which encourages patients to have more informed conversations about health services with their physicians.
New Brunswick Medical Society president Dr. Camille Haddad encourages dialogue between patients and physicians about the overuse of medical tests, treatments and procedures.
“We don’t need to order tests because it’s not going to change the management of the condition they have.”
Dr. Haddad says if a CAT-scan is ordered for a patient with back pain, that includes 200 x-rays and if there is no need for it, there is no need to expose the patient to radiation.
