Prince William Street is getting quite the make-over.
$929,437 being given from all three levels of government going towards the Prince William Street water system renewal project, running from King Street to Dennis Stream.
St. Stephen Mayor John Quartermain says this is great news for St. Stephen with many benefits, “This upgrade will allow the separation of the surface water from the waste water, reducing the amount of water being treated at our sewage treatment plant, and lower our treatment costs.”
He says the upgrade will also improve protection against property damage from flooding, and refresh the pavement and sidewalks for drivers and pedestrians.
Quartermain adds Public Works has reported twelve water leaks over the past ten years in just one block of Prince William Street.
Quartermain, along with MLA John Ames and South-West New Brunswick MP John Williamson in St. Stephen this morning to make the announcement at Town Hall.
The work is said to begin this summer, but it will be up to St. Stephen Town Council to decide on tenders and how the work will progress.
