The province’s new tethering law has increased the number of neglect and abuse calls to the New Brunswick SPCA.
So many calls are coming in that the animal protection agency is now facing financial hardship.
New Brunswick is the first province in the country to ban the tethering of dogs 24 hours a day.
Executive Director Hilary Howes says they’ve received over 350 tethering-related calls.
Howes says the increase was due partly to the new tethering laws, but also because of the harsh winter we had.
He says the NB SPCA is in need of donations and their board is looking at new ways of fundraising to help.
