The boil water order currently in place for parts of the East side won’t be lifted until Saturday evening at the earliest.
That from Deputy Commissioner of Saint John Water Kendall Mason, who tells us 700 notices were hand-delivered to the affected customers.
The cause of the boil water order is due to a water main break on Champlain Drive and Mason says the repair has been successful although at this point in time, the cause of the break is inconclusive and they’ll be investigating over the next few weeks.
Mason says the first water quality sample has been taken and is being sent to an independant contract lab for analysis and will be presented to the Department of Health. Typically, two consecutive clean samples collected 24 hours apart are needed before the order can be lifted.
The affected areas are:
Cottage Road, Civic #’s 1 – 138
Bayside Drive, Civic #’s 1142 – 1385
Grandview Avenue, Civic #’s 438 – 1223
All of Champlain Heights Area
Old Black River Road, Civic #’s 777 – 916
Berryman Street
Helena Street

Mason says they will not be hand-delivering notices when the boil water order is rescinded.
