A truckload of brand-new mattresses and bedding going to the emergency homeless shelter and transition apartment run by the Coverdale Centre For Women thanks to a donation from Sleep Country Canada.
Executive Director of Coverdale Centre Mary Saulnier-Taylor tells us one of the first things they suggest to the women who use their services is to get a good night’s sleep. She says when they arrive they’re usually emotionally and physically drained, so to have the opportunity to improve their services through the new beds is enormous.
Saulnier-Taylor says replacing the beds has been on her bucket list for two years now and she says she can’t thank Sleep Country enough for this.
Erika Stocker lives in Saint John and tells us she was at Coverdale twice in the past. She believes with this donation people are going to be thinking more positively about shelters. She says it’s hard to talk about living in a shelter, because you don’t know who is going to judge you.
