It’s been a good year at the Port.
Container cargo experienced a third year of double digit growth with a 14 per cent increase in tonnage compared to the year before.
Back in January, they announced a modernization project for the West side of the port worth more than 200 million dollars.
Port President and CEO Jim Quinn tells us the project will create 200 jobs annually during a 7 year construction phase.
He says there will be peaks as you get into heavy construction and then following construction with the growth in business they expect a doubling of jobs both direct and indirect.
Port Chair Peter Gaulton says its important to remember that the Port is required by the Canada Marine Act to make a profit and those profits are invested back into the operation.
