Saint John Airport launching a programme to get the public behind the push for 50 million dollars worth of upgrades over the next few years starting with refurbishment of the runways. Much of that money will be sought from government.
The chair of the Airport Authority Norm MacFarlane points out the airport contributed 66 million dollars a year to the regional economy.
As for the politicians, MacFarlane says they listen to the people who actually go out and vote which is why public support is essential. He adds now is a good time to be asking for government help because a federal election is just a few months away.
