Proposed changes to the taxi industry in the city will get a public airing this Wednesday at the Peel Plaza police station.
The proposed taxi bylaw will see meters in all cabs having meters and fares will be higher than they are now for the most part. What has generated the most opposition from taxi owners and drivers has been the proposed requirement that no cab be on the road that’s more than 7 years old.
The taxi drivers and owners will have their say Wednesday morning at 10 and then at 2 that afternoon, various organisations and community groups will get the chance to give their views.
The Saint John Taxi Owners and Operators met yesterday and have requested the chance to make a presentation to Common Council before the bylaw gets third and final approval.
