The Yarmouth-Maine ferry service kicks off its second season later today.
Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood says her town is ready after a lot of sprucing up through its store front grant program.
“Lot of painting going on and detailing. Its just really exciting. We also have a street scape program thats starting as well so we will have bump outs and trees and flowers.”
The town has matched up to $5,000. for each store owner fixing up their store front.
Meanwhile, the provincial opposition PC Transportation critic John Lohr says while its good to have the service back, there is still an ominous, dark financial cloud hanging over the service.
He tells us: “Lets be clear. We are all hoping this ferry does great and I think this second year is a critical year but it still looks like it will not be profitable.”
Mayor Mood believes though this will be a much different season for the ferry after months of advertising on both sides of the border, increased bookings and a different fare structure.
The Nova Star leaves Portland this evening, arriving in Yarmouth Tuesday morning at 8 o’clock.
