The process of finding a new police chief for Saint John has reached it’s final stages.
Saint John Police Commission Chair Nicole Paquet says they have a couple great candidates in mind. Paquet says they are looking for someone with experience leading a force and someone with innovative ideas.
Interim Police Chief Glen McCloskey says he did not apply for the position.
Mayor Mel Norton wants the new chief to control costs. The Police Commission has been told the Police Department is 239 thousand dollars over budget for 2014. Overtime costs exceeded the budget by almost 340 thousand dollars. The budget deficit would have been higher were it not for a spending freeze that was put into effect midway through last year.
