Members of the newly formed Saint John Taxi Association claim they haven’t been heard from on proposed changes to the way the taxi business is run in the city. That’s why they’re calling for the vote on a new taxi bylaw be put off indefinitely.
David Gaudet is a member of the Association and says the drivers don’t object to wrecks being taken off the road but that has nothing to do with the age of the vehicle. It has more to do with inspections and enforcement.
Gaudet says the requirement that cab drivers have 2 million dollars in comprehensive insurance, up from a million, will also cost them more. He estimates in his case from 38 hundred dollars a year to almost 6 thousand.
