In the Majors, the Blue Jays and Washington split a doubleheader with the Nationals taking the first 2-0 behind Jordon Zimmerman. R-A Dickey took the loss. The Blue Jays won the nightcap, 7-3 with Kevin Pillar hitting two homers off Max Sherzer……Clay Bucholtz allowed just three hits as the Red Sox shut out Minnesota 1-0. Earlier, Red Sox owner John Henry said the team’s performance through the first 50 games of the season had been unacceptable…..Garrett Jones hit a three run homer in the 11th to give the Yankees a 5-3 win over Seattle.
St. Louis, with the best record in baseball, shut out Milwaukee 1-0 behind Lance Lynn. Matt Holliday’s on base streak ended at 45 games which is still the highest ever in the National League. Alex Guerrero hit a grand slam homer in the top of the 9th to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 9-8 win over Colorado and split of their doubleheader.
The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenseman Jeff Petry to a six-year contract worth 5.5 million a year.
Newly re-elected FIFA boss Sepp Blatter shocked everyone when he announced his resignation. A-B-C is reporting Blatter, himself, was under investigation by the F-B-I and U.S. prosecutors.
