Despite the storm of controversy over the decision to cancel the purchase of genetic sequencing equipment for the Regional Hospital, provincial Health Minister Victor Boudreau is not backing down.
He says the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute in Moncton has more than enough of the machines already to meet the needs of people in the province.
Boudreau says the government wants to avoid duplication and save the taxpayer money.
The 900 thousand dollars for the genetic sequencing equipment was raised by the Regional Hospital Foundation through its major fundraiser, “The Give”.
