The newly-minted vice-president of Irving Oil taking the stage at Port Days Saint John to deliver a presentation focusing on marine traffic and marine safety.
Mark Sherman telling the audience that they run an organization called Alert which is their marine emergency response organization and has been in place since 1991 and is federally regulated. He says people always want to know all about the pipeline and whether they are going to build a second refinery etc., however marine safety has got to be paramount.
Sherman comparing marine traffic maps showing that while there were 15 ships in the Bay of Fundy on Monday, the Port of Vancouver saw about 100 the same day and there were over 400 ships in the English Channel.
Sherman says there have been no whale strikes in the Bay of Fundy since shipping lanes were established.
