LeBron James scored 40 points with Matthew Dellavedova adding 20 and the Cleveland Cavaliers held off Golden State’s fourth quarter comeback for a 96-91 win over the Warriors to take a 2-1 lead in the NBA Final.
In the Majors, San Francisco rookie Chris Heston threw a no hitter and struck out 11 as the Giants downed the New York Mets 5-0…….Edwin Encarnacion hit a walkoff homer in the bottom of the 9th to give the Blue Jays a 4-3 win over Miami, their 7th win in a row……The Yankees won their 7th straight, 6-1 over Washington as Stephen Drew hit two homers….Another big performance by Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez but Baltimore got by Boston 1-0 with the only run being scored on a wild pitch. Toronto native Joey Votto hit three homers for Cincinnati in an 11-2 win over Philadelphia. In the late games out west, the Los Angeles Dodgers over Arizona 3-1 and Texas hung on for a 2-1 win over Oakland.
In the Women’s World Cup, it was France over England 1-0…..Brazil over South Korea 2-0 with Marta scoring to become the leading goalscorer in the tournament’s history…..Columbia and Mexico tied 1-1…Spain and Costa Rica also tied 1-1.
The Detroit Red Wings, as expected, have named Jeff Blashill as their new head coach to replace Mike Babcock. Blashill coached Grand Rapids to the Calder Cup championship in 2013 and made it to the conference finals this year.
