The realtor for the old Bargain Shop which sits empty at the top of King Street says they’re going to be pushing the marketing campaign for the property again soon to try and attract a buyer for the approximately $1.7-million building.
However, Stephanie Turner of Partners Global Corporate Real Estate does admit that the timing may not be quite right when it comes to selling the space.
She tells us she believes there is some pent-up demand for investment here in Saint John, and thinks there are people out there that believe there are good things coming however they’re waiting with their money for other announcements.
Turner says she feels the same as other residents that the empty building is an eyesore. She says people feel very strongly about that corner.
The more than 44,000 square foot property is zoned for mixed use, however the ground floor has to remain commercial, and it is not designated as a heritage building. It’s also zoned for up to 20 stories.
The roof does leak which has caused damage to the inside of the building so someone would have to go in and completely gut the building.
