A Saint Johner has been named the East Canada representative for the Commonwealth Freedom of Movement Organization which aims for free movement for Commonwealth citizens between Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Canada.
Joshua Thomson says he lived in New Zealand at one point and tried to stay but wasn’t able to because of immigration, which he describes as a heartbreaking point in his life. He calls that his biggest defeat, but almost 10 years later, he came upon this movement so he now sees it as a positive.
Thomson believes doing this would help to enrich our cultures.
Thomson says an online petition has gathered over 76,000 signatures to date and has already been submitted to the Parliaments of the UK, Australia and New Zealand. He says they are waiting for the Canadian federal election this fall before submiting it to the federal government.
