The President and C-E-O of the Regional Hospital Foundation Jeff McAloon says his phone has been ringing off the hook in light of the controversy over whether the purchase of genetic sequencing equipment should be cancelled by the provincial government.
McAloon says the calls have come in from donors, administrators and doctors as well as other hospital foundations which are worried about what effect all the publicity will have.
There is the fear donors may have second thoughts about contributing in the future which is why the Foundation is taking such a strong a stand in favour fo the purchase proceeding.
Neurosurgeon Dr. Brian Wheelock says he’s a donor himself and won’t have second thoughts about contributing in the future but will be asking questions about whether the money he’s donating will be used for the purpose which it is intended.
As to whether there has been any progress in the ongoing discussions with the government is another matter. McAloon will only say there has been a lot of back and forth.
