Over the next two decades, the number of dementia cases in Canada is predicted to double, and that means trouble for rural New Brunswick.
That’s according to economics professor Dr. Frank Strain from Mount Allison University.
He says the New Brunswick has a particularly unusual situation because many regions suffer from depopulation of young people between the ages of 19 and 35.
This is a problem because there are fewer young people to look after those who develop dementia.
Strain says further research needs to be done on how to solve this impending crisis.
