The money from the provincial government for a Moncton downtown centre is in the form of a forgivable loan.
Premier Brian Gallant says there was a reason for that.
“If the project does not move forward or if it does not have all of the benefits that we all hope it will, then the taxpayers money is protected. The forgivable loan will have to be repaid.”
Gallant says the provincial government firmly believes the downtown centre will stimulate the economy and it will mean Greater Moncton can bring in big events and help generate activity in the southeastern part of the province.
