Standing room only at the Bill McGuire Memorial Centre in Rothesay for a town meeting on a proposal to develop a commercial retail shopping district in the area known as Millennium Park which is located on lands in between Campbell Drive, Millennium Drive and Wedgewood Drive.
The development proposal includes 15 commercial buildings in the area with a mixture of uses.
Rick Turner of Hughes Surveys and Consultants delivering the presentation explaning that this isn’t a development that would happen anytime soon, saying that it could be 15 or even 20 years out. He says that the first phase of the plan would be finding an anchor tenant which he describes as being critical to the development of the site.
Turner also answering questions from town councillors and residents, most of whom spoke out against the proposal. Councillor Matt Alexander raised concerns about the development impacting smaller retailers in the town while councillor Miriam Wells brought up light pollution and noise.
Ian Patrick, who lives on Donlyn Drive, says the development is something the community does not need and can’t support.
You can write-in a comment to the town clerk until July 22 and all of the comments will be forwarded to Rothesay Council at the August 10 meeting.
No approvals will be made at the August meeting of the Planning Advisory Committee or Council.
