A builder’s contract in the province has no value…….So claims Gary McKay of Wickham as he and his wife, Pamela, endure what they’re calling a nightmare that began in 2007 with the construction of what they thought would be their dream retirement home. It has not gone well and the home will have to be torn down.
McKay is not impressed with the Regional Service Commission which inspected the home and determined only minor repairs were needed while the Provincial Finance Department concluded the house, itself, was worthless.
The McKays have gone to court but there have been several delays and they won’t be able to get an appearance before 2016.
McKay says the deck was condemned, the main support walls at both ends of the house are structurally unsound and can’t handle a snow load, doors pop open when there is snow on the roof, water runs down one of the walls, the garage can’t be used because it might collapse and the chandelier in the living room sways back and forth when it’s windy outside
