An independant investigation into the Larry’s Gulch scandal revealing two former senior officials with the government altered the 2013 guest list at the now-notorious private fishing resort with the intent to conceal information.
The report by the province’s Access to Information Commissioner Anne Bertrand finds the officials did so at the request of a newspaper editor who wanted some of his personal info taken off the list before it was made public by the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture.
While the Commisioner found the actions constituted an offence under the Act, she’s not recommending charges be laid, believing it to be more important to send a message that any kind of tampering with a public government record won’t be tolerated in the future.
In June it was announced that there will be an annual lottery draw to give average New Brunswickers a chance to visit Larry’s Gulch. Those who want to apply can do so until July 13 at a cost of $10.
