NB Power is reporting a 20 per cent fewer outages in the first six months of this year, compared to the last six months of 2014 which includes the stormy winter weather we had in February. There was also a 40 per cent decrease in the length of outages when they did happen.
The utility attributes better reliability on improvements made after Post-tropical Storm Arthur, which pounded the province a year ago this weekend.
Millions of dollars have been spent on trimming back trees from power lines but more rainfall is resulting in wetter soil. That means tree roots are not seeking moisture deeper in the earth and because of that, high winds can knock them down more easily.
