It was a sad weekend in Calais, Maine after a freak accident caused the death of a local man.
The Maine Department of Public Safety confirms Devon Staples was drinking with friends at a home on Saturday night, July 4th, 2015, around 10pm, when the 22 year old tried to launch a firework off the top of his head.
When the fireworks mortar tube was lit, Staples died instantly of his injuries.
It is unclear if he purposely lit the fuse, or was just pretending to in order to get a reaction from his friends.
His death is the first fireworks fatality in Maine since the state legalized fireworks in 2012.
