The 66th annual Shediac Lobster Festival kicks off in the resort town today and runs until Sunday with lots of lobster and fun for the whole family.
A giant lobster roll will once again kick off the event tonight with hopes of breaking last year’s record at 72 feet, 4 inches long.
Festival co-president Mike Boudreau says a new event this year is called “Corks and Claws” with local sommelier Bill Vance combining wine tasting with lobster tasting.
“For all the foodies out there that enjoy that type of thing and managed to get some tickets… there were 250 tickets for sale and it sold out completely… real fast,” he notes.
Boudreau says the buskers will be back for a second year along with daily amusement rides, musical performances and educational opportunities to learn more about the lobster fishery.
Downtown Shediac will once again be closed to traffic on the final day of the festival – Sunday – for a giant lobster supper.
