A 34 year old man from Mayfield being sent for a 30 day psychiatric evaluation in Restigouche, after a nearly 21 hour stand-off with police yesterday.
Luke Cunningham acted strangely in St. Stephen Provincial Court, quietly laughing to himself throughout the proceedings, while being charged with carrying a weapon — a 12 gauge shotgun — for the purpose dangerous to the public.
The Crown stating there will be more charges to come.
Sunday afternoon, October 18th, the fire department responded to a car fire at a home in Mayfield, and called police after hearing a gunshot.
Later on in the evening, once police had surrounded the home and the man barricaded himself inside, more shots were fired at police. One bullet hit the RCMP’s armoured vehicle.
No injuries were reported on either account.
Cunningham is back in court November 17th.
