A man doing some work at the business underneath Far End Corporation at 52 Canterbury Street the evening of July 6, 2011 testifying at the second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland that he heard loud thumping, pounding sounds upstairs between 7:30 and 7:45pm
Anthony Shaw testifies he was at first-floor business Printing Plus with owner John Ainsworth that evening. He arrived at 6pm and left at 9pm. Describing the sounds, he says there was a big crash then repeated thumping – sounds like you’re hammering a nail or hitting a wall. He says there was one big crash then 8 or 10 repeated sounds after. Asked how long the noises lasted Shaw says maybe 10 or 15 seconds.
A surveillance video taken from Cochran’s Country Market on July 6, 2011 from 7:38pm to 7:42pm shows Dennis Oland in the store.
Shaw asked why he didn’t go and check out the noises with Shaw explaining that he owns a building and he thought it was maybe someone working late in office possibly arranging furniture, putting it together, or hanging a picture.
The body of Richard Oland was discovered in his investment firm, Far End Corporation, on July 7.
