The Trans Canada Trail Foundation hopes to connect the entire country by way of a national trail in time for Canada’s 150th Birthday in 2017.
The organization presenting the roughly 47 kilometre route intended for Saint John to Common Council, which was approved unanimously.
Tim O’Reilly is the Traffic Engineer for the city, he says the initial cost of the trail for the city will be $32,000 and ongoing maintenance of $24,000 annually.
O’Reilly hopes construction on the trail will begin next year.
Angela Morin is the Trail Coordinator for the Atlantic region, she says it will be a muti-purpose trail promoted for walking, hiking, horseback riding, cycling, paddling, cross country skiing and snowmobiling.
