A group calling is calling for the new Liberal government to bring in a proportional representation electoral system, in an effort to ensure all Canadian votes count.
Vice President on the National Council of Fair Vote Canada Brenda Oslawsky this system allows almost every vote that is cast will elect someone.
She says, “In the last election, 51.8 per cent voters cast a vote that elected no one. In countries that use PR, that number is usually closer to five per cent.”
Also she says, the Liberal party got 39.5 per cent of the popular vote, but they got 54 per cent of the seats, which meant a majority, but they got a false majority.
Oslawsky says the consensus style government has allowed countries like Sweden, Denmark and Norway to be at the top of the list and outrank us when it comes to the democracy.
