City Councillor Susan Fullerton not impressing the Saint John Cycling group with her comments on bike lanes in Millidgeville made this week at Common Council.
Fullerton says she travels those streets in all hours of the day and seldom, if ever, sees cyclists using them.
She compares it to building a playground in the middle of nowhere that no one uses, questioning whether or not it’s a good use of the city’s money.
Holly McKay is the Vice President of Saint John Cycling, she says comments made by Fullerton were absurd.
McKay says the Saint John Cycling group will be holding a bicycle parade this Saturday in protest of comments made by Fullerton.
She says she knows a number of people in the cycling community who take the route in Millidgeville.
McKay calls the comments very dismissive, especially to the people who are out there cycling and need the bike lanes.
In response, Saint John Cycling is hosting a bicycle parade on Saturday morning at 10:30 starting from the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.
Fullerton is hoping they have a really excellent turnout and adds, hopefully this will bring more awareness of bikers who live in Millidgeville, the North End and the Crescent Valley area or those attending or working at UNB Saint John and the Regional Hospital.
