The Regional Officer of Health believes they may have reached the peak of the Whooping Cough outbreak.
They now have 47 cases in Southeastern New Brunswick. Most of them are in the Greater Moncton area, but the number of cases has remained steady throughout late October.
Dr. Yves Leger says they have recently seen an increase in demand for vaccinations, through Public Health and Physicians.
He says, “That’s good news, because it’s an indication that the message is getting out of the importance of vaccinations, especially for those who are in a high risk for complications or for those who are in close contact with them.”
Leger says the majority of the cases are in children and adolescents. They have had no confirmed cases of infants with Pertussis, despite the recent reports. Of the confirmed cases they have had, there have been no reports of hospitalizations.
