Local environmentalist Gordon Dalzell is urging Atlantic Potash to install a scrubber at its fertiliser plant that’s being proposed for the McAllister Industrial Park. He’s concerned about 2.6 tons of ammonia being released into the atmosphere each year.
As for the other emissions, they’re not bad compared to what has been emitted over the years on the east side.
Dalzell is glad to hear the ammonium nitrate to be used will be combined with water in a concentration that will lessen the risk of an explosion happening.
One question Dalzell has is where will Atlantic Potash gets its supply of natural gas from once the Maritime Northeast pipeline runs dry in about 10 years time.
