Constable David MacDonald, who was a member of the Saint John Police’s Forensic Identification Section in July of 2011 testifying at the second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland about taking a DNA sample from Dennis Oland close to two years after Richard Oland’s bludgeoned body was discovered in his office.
MacDonald says a DNA warrant had been signed by a judge on April 29, 2013 and he took a DNA sample from Dennis Oland on May 15, 2013 using a foam applicator placed in his mouth.
MacDonald also obtained a consent DNA sample on June 20, 2013 from Galen McFadden, the son of Far End Corporation employee Bob McFadden. In an interview with Constable Stephen Davidson, who took over as lead investigator in the case, Dennis Oland described Bob McFadden was the guy who was closest to his father Richard, describing him as both a right-hand man and a friend.
MacDonald stepping down from the witness stand however he will be recalled to finish his testimony. The murder trial of Dennis Oland continues at the Saint John Law Courts Tuesday at 9:30am.
