The Provincial Lung Association is trying to get the message out during Radon Action Month about the dangerous gas.
President and CEO Barb McKinnon says you can’t see or smell radon but’s the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.
She says radon is a natural gas that eminates from the ground all the time because it’s a breakdown product of uranium.
McKinnon says radon tends to accumulate indoors inside homes but its easy to test for and relatively easy to fix.
In order to mitigate, a piping system is the basement floor is extending to the roof of your home or at the side.
