The second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland hearing that Robert McFadden and Dennis Oland were co-executors of Richard Oland’s estate and following his death, they were both appointed directors of his companies — the jury has heard the combined value of Richard Oland’s companies was $36-million as of July 6, 2011. Richard’s bludgeoned body was discovered in his office on July 7, 2011.
McFadden testifying at the trial that, as well, he became president of Kingshurst Estates and Far End Corporation and that Dennis Oland was appointed president of the holding company.
McFadden says that Richard Oland had a relatively simple will where his house along with the furniture and fixtures inside went to his wife, Connie Oland, and after his debts were paid, the funeral paid for and assets realized, any residual along with the corporations Richard owned were to be transferred to a spousal trust for his wife’s benefit. The will also stated that upon Connie’s death, the trust would be dissolved and the rest would be broken up into thirds to be distributed to his three children: daughters Lisa and Jacqueline and his only son, Dennis.
McFadden says that he was aware that he was to become an executor in the event Richard died however he never spoke with Dennis about whether he knew he would also be an executor.
McFadden says the blood at the crime scene had seeped through “three, maybe four” layers of flooring into the ceiling below and a new floor had to be put down in the office at 52 Canterbury Street. He says six months after the body was found he and secretary Maureen Adamson were working there on a daily basis and had created some office space for Dennis that he used occasionally.
This testimony being delivered on day 30 of the murder trial. 65 days have been set aside at the Saint John Law Courts. The trial resumes on Wednesday morning at 9:30.
