Canaport LNG pleading guilty to two charges in the aftermath of the deaths of more than 75 hundred migratory birds in 2013. They flew into the flaring at the LNG terminal. All other charges were dropped.
Federal prosecutor Paul Adams says a plea agreement was reached to avoid going to trial which could be lengthy and expensive.
Canaport LNG has agreed to pay a penalty of 750 thousand dollars. Most of that money will be divided up among the New Brunswick Museum, Nature Canada, U-N-B, Bird Studies Canada and the Environment Damages Fund.
Canaport LNG also has to implement weekly monitoring of bird migration over the Bay of Fundy.
