A provincial effort to battle bullying and create a welcoming environment for all students beginning today in all schools across New Brunswick.
It’s called Diversity and Respect Week and it replaces Anti-Bullying Week which was promoted in New Brunswick schools since 2012. As part of the initiative, schools around the province will be holding assemblies and special events including First Nations dancers and drummers to the school. As well some schools will take on special projects like random acts of kindness initiatives.
Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Serge Rouselle says they wanted to include a broader mandate for schools to celebrate the diversity of their students and of their communities, while focusing upon fostering a culture of respect.
Rouselle says schools will be able to focus upon reducing incidents of bullying by emphasizing the importance of respect for others and encouraging understanding for the differences that make students unique.
